 New Leaf Gardeners

The New Leaf Gardeners is a Social Enterprise Firm aimed at supporting people with mental health issues to gain experience in horticulture.

Our work in the community helps people increase their confidence and self-esteem, gives them a sense of achievement and promotes physical exercise.

Gardening can be used as a ‘ Green Therapy ‘ and is widely recognised as a way of coping with mental health issues.

The project has been running for 7 years but has expanded over the years and became a Social Enterprise Firm in April 2008.

New Leaf Gardeners currently work in the community 3 days a week on a variety of domestic and contract gardens.  All members receive practical training & support to give them a good all-round basic understanding of horticulture.

Members of the group can attend up to 3 days a week and receive travel / lunch expenses.  The New Leaf Gardeners is aimed at people who have an interest in gardening to gain knowledge and experience as a possible stepping stone to employment.

There is no time limit to how long people can stay with New Leaf, it is there as a therapy and practical help for as long as people need.  We welcome anyone who may suffer with mental health issues to come and join us.

Any one who interested can ring and come to meet staff and other members to chat about the project and whether it is suitable for them.  Please ring Bob or Diane for a referral form or to discuss the project more on 0113 2713337.

The New Leaf Gardeners has helped our service users in a variety of ways. Here are some quotes from service users who have attended our project :

My time with New leaf Gardeners has helped me learn new skills and I have gained confidence in myself.

I enjoy gardening with New Leaf as I love being out in the fresh air and helping people who need their garden doing, I have made new friends and I enjoy the exercise.
