Social Firms are businesses where all the profits are put back into the business (rather than being given to shareholders) so that people with disabilities or health problems can be given work. They are one way of creating employment opportunities for people experiencing discrimination because of their mental health difficulties.
The Government believes that a very important part of improving mental health involves
- tackling discrimination
- creating work through setting up social firms
- reducing social exclusion
In Leeds, Mental Wealth is responding to these objectives by setting up dynamic social firms that include service users in all stages of their development.
