Opportunities for people with mental health problems who want to move on

Exciting opportunities exist in West Leeds for people who want help to get a job, undertake a course for pleasure, try voluntary work or take advantage of sport and leisure opportunities.

William Morris,  Link Work

Working from Stocks Hill Day Centre, Will links people who have mental health problems with leisure, recreational and educational opportunities in the community. He supports people who want to try volunteering as a way of developing confidence or who want to do a course for pleasure, or who just want to have fun trying out a new hobby with other people.

Adrian Patton,  Employment Development Coordinator

Also working from Stocks Hill Day Centre, Adrian offers a service to people who want to take the first steps back to work or training. It is a 'signposting' service meaning that the service puts people in touch with useful organisations, people or information. Adrian can help people in lots of different ways, for example he can help people who need work experience in a work placement or who want to apply for courses or who want to apply directly for employment. The service provides people with ongoing support.

How to refer or be referred to these services

f you are a service user and want to be referred to Adrian or Will, discuss this with a worker (e.g. GP, social worker or psychiatrist) and if you both feel you are ready to move on, then your worker will need to fill in a Stocks Hill Day Centre referral form.  Your worker will need to write on the form that it is for the attention of either Adrian or Will.  You can download a referral form from here. When you download the form it needs to be saved as a Word document and then emailed or posted.  It is not possible yet to complete the form on-line.

Moving on

'Moving On' is a self-help group that is being developed by staff and service users. The group will offer mutual support and information sharing to people who are seeking work, education, training or leisure opportunities. Moving On is currently being developed as a city-wide service.

William Morris' 'Linkwork' service,  and the service run by Adrian Patton are open to people with mental health problems who live in or use services in the West of Leeds (Armley, Bramley, Wortley, Pudsey, Swinnow, Calverley and Farsley). The Leeds-wide Fulfilling Rolls catering and Mental Wealth projects may also be of interest, and involve people from across the city.
