Help for people with mental health difficulties who are looking for work or trying to keep their job PDF Print E-mail

Why have I set up this website?

I wanted to put all the local information about mental health and employment in one place so that you are in control, rather than being dependent on workers who may or may not be able to tell you about all of your options. I also thought it would be useful  as a tool for workers who are helping people with mental health difficulties.

(Check out my new blog by clicking here - it's full of useful tips about finding work, education or training in Leeds)

Because the information is on a website it means that you can find out what you need when and where you want to, whether in a library, at home or wherever you or a friend, family member or worker have  computer access.

The information is mainly local information, because this is  what I believe is most practically useful.  Please email me if anything is missing or if you like it.

What is Mental Wealth?

The Mental Wealth project is a project about making the most of people's strengths so they can gain or retain employment (which includes paid and unpaid work e.g. voluntary work).

The project focuses on two unique projects; a social enterprise called the Melting Pot and the Work Well project.I have set up this website for these partnership projects.

Where is Mental Wealth?

Mental Wealth is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.

What is the Work Well Project?

It is a single point where people can find out in one go about all the services that can help them find or keep work.

The Work Well Project is a citywide mental health employment service that coordinates existing services so that service users can benefit from the combined expertise of mental health and employment workers and be referred to the service that they are eligible to use from the start.  This avoids the frustration of being sent from pillar to post before you can be seen by the right person.

In this time of funding cuts, the project is a very cost effective way of offering a mental health employment service because it is creating a service by bringing together existing resources rather than paying for a separate service.

Who is involved in Work Well?

The Work Well project is a partnership between Leeds Adult Social Care, Leeds Jobs and Skills (both part of Leeds City Council), Working Minds, Leeds Mind and Dosti Asian Women's Support Service.

What is the Melting Pot?

The Melting Pot is a mental health catering social enterprise that trades and trains by running a twice yearly 12 week training course, making buffets and linking people in with work placements. It is legally registered as a Community Interest Company.

Recently the Melting Pot came second in the Leeds City Council Awards for Economy and Enterprise.

Why was the Melting Pot set up?

The purpose of the Melting Pot is to create employment and training opportunities for people from all cultures with mental health issues. It is a joint project between Dosti Asian Women's Support Service and Leeds Adult Social Care.

One of the Melting Pot's key aims is to become self-sustaining through generating enough profit to cover all of its costs. We want to have a thriving business that can make enough money to run itself.
